Halloween is a holiday that’s meant to be scary, but we want to help you leave the spooking to the ghosts, witches and goblins by sharing some tips to keep you safe while driving this year.

Across the country, the number of traffic accidents is known to rise on All Hallows Eve as excited children and adult partygoers often pay less attention to road safety—especially during the peak trick-or-treating hours between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

As you could guess, it’s the residential roads that see the biggest increase in congestion, so INRIX advises drivers avoiding the trick-or-treating to stick to major routes and highways. However, if you’re heading into residential areas behind the wheel, here are 13 Halloween driving safety tips:

Leave a comment and let us know if these tips are helpful and if you have any tips of your own that you’d add. Also tell us what you’re planning to do this Halloween!

It’s 2012!

It’s embarrassing that we still have to use the phrase ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) when speaking about our arrival times. When I want the time of day, I don’t glance at the position of the sun in the sky and give an estimated time of day. I glance at my phone and know within 60 seconds the actual time. Likewise, in 2012, we should be able to expunge the acronym “ETA” out of our vocabularies, given that we now know real-time traffic, we can give the actual arrival time.

With the introduction of INRIX Traffic v4 for iPhone/iPad/iPod, INRIX is indeed taking the “E” out of “ETA”. Given that INRIX has nearly 100 million drivers all contributing to the world’s largest driver community, we now offer you INRIX Arrival Times. What are INRIX Arrival Times? Great question. INRIX Arrival Times are the industry’s best and most accurate arrival times given the world’s most accurate current and patented predictive traffic conditions. Other travel apps offer ETAs. INRIX Traffic goes further and provides INRIX Arrival Times.

But don’t stop there. Now you can go even further. With just two taps, you can share your personalized INRIX Arrival Time with the people waiting for you at your favorite places. For free. For example, share your INRIX Arrival Time to home with your spouse or share your INRIX Arrival Time with your colleagues at work, so they can decide to either start without you or wait. You are sure to win favor for not wasting the valuable time of others based on their uncertainty of your arrival time. Below is quick video that shows you how simple it is to share your INRIX Arrival Times.

Be sure to set your favorite contacts for Home and Work to share your INRIX Arrival Times even quicker and safer while driving.

Thanks for helping change the world by taking the “E” out of “ETA”.

Enjoy.

Real-time Traffic to Launch in Summer 2012

INRIX continues our global momentum for real-time traffic information with the expansion into our 31st country – Brazil and tenth language of the INRIX Traffic app – Brazilian Portuguese.

In a country that places nearly 1,000 new vehicles on local roads every day, INRIX will provide Brazil with the most accurate real-time and predictive traffic available at a time local drivers and governments need it most.

Sao Paulo traffic

According to Kush Parikh, INRIX SVP, “Traffic congestion is one of Brazil’s biggest problems because the country’s infrastructure has not kept pace with its rapid economic growth. It’s come to a point where gridlock on the country’s roads is stalling further economic growth at a time when they can least afford it.”

A recent 285 miles (452 km) traffic jam in Sao Paulo caused a normally 45 min trip to take 4 hours has renewed concerns over a possible breakdown on roads, airports, and communications systems when Brazil hosts the soccer World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016. But INRIX is here to help our community members avoid traffic and frustration.

INRIX will integrate data for 10,000+ kms of highways, city streets and local roads into our traffic platform optimized for the delivery of applications in the car, online and on mobile devices.

Our free mobile app, INRIX Traffic v4 for iOS, now supports ten languages including Brazilian Portuguese. INRIX Traffic is the free app that helps drivers avoid traffic and frustration, so they can never be late again.

INRIX Traffic v4 for iOS in Brazilian Portuguese

As always, we welcome feedback from our nearly 100 million strong driver community to appfeedback@inrix.com.

For several months, we’ve been working hard to bring you our most exciting version yet…version 4 for iPhone/iPad/ iPod!

Today, we’re excited to announce the release of INRIX Traffic v4 for iOS. With nearly 100 Million traffic reports in the palm of your hand, v4 is packed with innovative new features that will help you determine your best route and the best time to leave to avoid traffic. We’ve also introduced personalized INRIX Arrival Times that tell you how long your trip will take based on real-time traffic conditions.

Now, let’s take a look at some of the new features in version 4.

The first new feature is our “Places” page. This page allows you, in a single glance to answer four important questions given real time traffic. i) What’s my fastest route to home/work? ii) what’s my exact arrival time iii) what’s the exact arrival time of the second fastest route? and iv) what’s the best time for me to leave?

Compare current traffic conditions and travel times with forecasted conditions to determine the best time to leave.

In version 4, you’ll also find that you can also share your INRIX Arrival Time with loved ones or colleagues via text message or email with just two taps.

Easily send your INRIX Arrival Times to any contact with just two taps.

Now let’s take a look at the new, enhanced map that will show you traffic on your routes. You will notice a few new things on this screen including new icons and an optimized layout. While the traffic colors tell you about the traffic flow, the incident icons tell you more about the specific traffic impacting events, whether it is an accident, road work, police activity or major event, which is causing the delay. Simply tap on an icon for more information. You will also soon notice that every 180 seconds, we will automatically maximize the your personal route to your full phone screen, so now you can drive safer without having to continuously zoom in and out.

View your route on a map and tap on an incident icon for details.

Check it out in the App Store, and remember to rate it again. With the release of each update our reviews start from scratch, so your rating is very important.

All of you with Android and Windows Phone 7 devices, hang in there. In the next few months we plan to roll-out all the great features in v4 for iOS for you too.

Check it out and let us know what you think!
